Welcome to a historic Yule atmosphere in the St. Nicolai ruin 5-7 December 2025.
Medieval Yule market for the whole family, entertainment, fire, food and drink and hopefully sparkling snow. When the December darkness descends over the St. Nicolai ruin, history comes to life. During Medieval Yule you can wander through an atmospheric market where warming fires are lit, music fills the vaults and the scents of Yule mix with the sound of laughter from both young and old.
Here, old crafts and contemporary music meet in a unique environment where you can discover everything from needle-tied mittens to fairy tales, experience concerts in the winter evening and taste food and drink that warms your heart. A historical atmosphere in the light of torches and, if the weather gods wish us, crunching snow under your shoes.
Medieval Yule is inaugurated with an atmospheric torchlight procession starting at Österport on 5 December at 4.30 pm. Then we walk together down through Visby’s alleys to the St. Nicolai ruin. Medieval Yule is an atmospheric experience for the whole family. A journey back in time, filled with community, magic and Yule spirit. Welcome to spend December 5–7 with us in the Middle Ages!
According to tradition, Medieval Yule begins with a torchlight procession from Österport to the medieval Yule area that is being built in the St. Nicolai ruin. Here you can experience our fine market, music, flea market, crafts and lots of Yule coziness. The whole city is bustling with Yule. Welcome!
