WHAT IS MEDIEVAL WEEK?
Medieval Week on Gotland (Medeltidsveckan på Gotland) is Sweden’s largest historical festival and has been held for over 40 years. It spans a full eight days, traditionally from Sunday to Sunday. In 2025, Medieval Week runs from August 3–10.
This year’s theme is Water – from pirates and treasure hunts to summer swims and water games. And of course, fire shows, concerts, jesters, and theater!
The week also features hands-on crafts, lectures, exciting courses, and the spectacular jousting tournaments with knights, horses, and archery.
With over 40 venues and more than 800 events, Medieval Week is one of Europe’s largest historical festivals. Come as you are or dress up in medieval clothing (you might even spot an elf or two…).
